SEATTLE MARINERS

After bumpy flight and unexpected side trip, M’s land safely in Dallas

IRVING, Texas – The Mariners had a bit of an adventure trying to land in Dallas early Monday morning.

The team was scheduled to land at midnight local time but storms in the area made this landing anything but routine. An attempt at an approach into Dallas was made but heavy turbulence forced the plane to circle and wait for a better window to land. Eventually, an announcement was made that the airport had been closed due to the weather and the plane was being diverted to San Antonio to refuel and wait until the Dallas airports were able to allow planes to land.

While on the ground in San Antonio we learned that the Rangers – who had played extra innings in Anaheim Sunday – also were unable to land in Dallas. Their flight was re-routed to Austin. After sitting on the ground for two hours in San Antonio, the Mariners’ pilots received word that the Dallas airports were once again open. After a 40-minute bumpy flight and a harrowing landing, the team was safely on the ground.

And my personal favorite:

As Goldsmith Tweeted, the pilot without question earned his merit badge on this flight.

The team is being given a little extra rest after the late arrival. Early work has been canceled and there is some question if the two teams will be able to get Monday’s game in with storms forecast throughout the day.
