The Seattle Mariners optioned relief pitchers Yoervis Medina and Tyler Olson to Triple-A Tacoma after Sunday’s loss to the Houston Astros, 710 ESPN Seattle’s Shannon Drayer reports.
The Mariners will make corresponding moves to replace them on the 25-man roster before the beginning of their series at Anaheim on Monday.
Medina, 26, has pitched in 141 games since joining the Mariners in 2013. He has a 3.00 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 12 innings in 2015.
The left-handed Olson, a 25-year-old rookie from Spokane, has a 5.40 ERA and 2.10 WHIP in 13.1 innings (11 appearances) this season with Seattle. This will be his first trip to Triple-A – he jumped straight from Double-A to the majors by earning a bullpen role after an impressive spring training.
Seattle has a pair of veteran arms in Tacoma that are candidates to be promoted in 38-year-old lefty Joe Beimel and 31-year-old righty Mark Lowe. Both players have pitched out of the Mariners bullpen in previous seasons and re-joined the franchise on minor-league deals prior to the regular season.
