Mariners first baseman Danny Valencia will get a crack at hitting in front of Robinson Cano, as he is slotted to be second in the batting order for manager Scott Servais in Saturday’s 1:05 game against the Boston Red Sox on 710 ESPN Seattle.
Also in Seattle’s lineup, Taylor Motter will start in left field for the second straight day with a southpaw again on the mound for Boston – this time Brian Johnson. Jarrod Dyson, who didn’t start Friday, is back in center field for the M’s, so it’s Ben Gamel who will sit Saturday. Guillermo Heredia will shift over to Gamel’s usual spot in right field.
Drayer: Cano slowed in field; Zunino still making adjustments
Rob Whalen will make his first appearance for the Mariners on the mound. The 23-year-old right-hander started five games last season as a rookie for the Atlanta Braves.
Coverage begins on 710 ESPN Seattle with the pregame show at noon.
