Robinson Cano won’t be making his return to the Mariners’ lineup tonight after all.
Cano appeared set to return from a quad injury that had sidelined him for the past four games, but he was scratched from the lineup ahead of Seattle’s opener against Oakland at Safeco Field.
The initial lineup had Taylor Motter in left field and Guillermo Heredia in center. Motter will play second base in Cano’s absence while Heredia moves to left and Jarrod Dyson replaces him in center field.
Cano left a game last week against Philadelphia with the quad injury. He played the next day but missed all four of Seattle’s games in Toronto. The Mariners scored a combined six runs while getting a swept.
Yovani Gallardo takes the hill for the Mariners. He’ll deliver first pitch at 7:10 on 710 ESPN Seattle, which will air pregame coverage beginning at 6.
Here’s the updated lineup for the Mariners (17-21):
Jean Segura, SS
Guillermo Heredia, LF
Nelson Cruz, DH
Kyle Seager, 3B
Danny Valencia, 1B
Taylor Motter, 2B
Ben Gamel, RF
Tuffy Gosewisch, C
Jarrod Dyson, CF
