LISTEN: What losing three OTAs means for the Seahawks

The NFL on Monday released the schedules for every team’s offseason workout program, including the dates for organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamps.

Here are the key dates for the Seahawks.

First day: April 18
OTAs: May 30, June 1-2, June 5-6, June 8-9
Minicamp: June 13-15

NFL teams are permitted up to 10 days of OTAs, but the Seahawks only have seven this year as a result of punishment the leagued handed down in September over Seattle’s latest violation of offseason practice regulations. That punishment included the forfeiture of the Seahawks’ first week of 2017 OTAs – which amounted to three OTA days – along with a fifth-round pick and fines totaling $600,000.

OTAs are voluntary while minicamps are mandatory for veteran players.

The dates for the Seahawks’ rookie minicamp will be announced later. That will be held either the first or second weekend after the draft, which this year is April 27-29.

Here’s an excerpt from the NFL’s announcement with a more detailed breakdown of offseason programs:

As per Article 21 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each club’s official, voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases:

Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual player instruction and drills as well as team practice conducted on a “separates” basis. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.

Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players. This minicamp, noted below, must occur during Phase Three of the offseason program.
