Mariners make roster moves, set projected opening day roster

PEORIA, Ariz. – The Mariners cut down to a 25-man roster is complete. The team announced Friday afternoon the following roster moves:
Recalled from Triple-A Tacoma
• LHP Ariel Miranda
Placed on 10-day disabled list
• RHP Steve Cishek (recovering from left hip labrum surgery)
• RHP Shae Simmons (right elbow strain)
• RHP Rob Whalen (right shoulder inflammation)
• RHP Tony Zych (recovering from right shoulder biceps tendon transfer surgery)
• LHP Drew Smyly (left arm flexor strain)
• IF Shawn O’Malley (recovering from appendectomy)
Optioned to Triple-A Tacoma
• OF Ben Gamel
• C Tuffy Gosewisch
Reassigned to minor league camp

As expected, the Mariners will go with an eight-man bullpen to open the season, with lefties James Pazos and Dillon Overton making the squad. The bench, meanwhile, will include Taylor Motter and Guillermo Heredia.
While there is always the possibility that Jerry Dipoto could pick up another player, this most likely is the 2017 Mariners opening day roster.
