If there was ever a good year to have to find a cornerback in the draft who’s capable of starting right away – a situation the Seahawks may be in with DeShawn Shead coming off a torn ACL – this might be the one. The 2017 NFL Draft is considered especially deep at cornerback. The latest mock draft from ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., for instance, has five of them going in the first round. That includes former Husky Kevin King to Seattle at No. 26.
Brock Huard, though, went in another direction when asked during “Blue 42” on Thursday which cornerbacks in this year’s draft would be the best fits for the Seahawks. He mentioned Alabama’s Marlon Humphrey and Tre’Davious White from Louisiana State along with Washington’s Sidney Jones, who’s expected to be available after the first round because of the Achilles injury he suffered earlier this month.
Also in “Blue 42,” Huard identified the position the Seahawks may target in the first round if it’s not offensive line or cornerback, and he talks about the next step for Huskies running back Myles Gaskin in his junior season.
