It didn’t look good when cornerback DeShawn Shead went down in the third quarter on Saturday with an apparent non-contact injury to his knee. Coach Pete Carroll confirmed as much, telling reporters after the Seahawks’ loss to Atlanta that the injury is significant and that it appears to involve Shead’s ACL.
Shead was dropping into coverage on the opening series of the second half when he planted then went down, holding his left knee in obvious pain. He walked off the field and limped around on the sideline but never returned.
“Possibly,” Carroll said when asked if the injury if it’s an ACL injury. “That’s what it looks like.”

Carroll didn’t provide any information on Shead’s injury beyond that. If it’s a tear, that would jeopardize Shead’s availability for the start of next season given the typical timetable for recovery from those injuries and the surgery that’s required. He’s scheduled to become a restricted free agent in March.
Rookie DeAndre Elliott replaced Shead for the remainder of the game while Neiko Thorpe came in at one point during the fourth quarter while Jeremy Lane was being treated for cramps.
Right guard Germain Ifedi hurt his ankle on Seattle’s opening possession and was replaced by Rees Odhiambo, a fellow rookie who has played sparingly this season, mostly as an extra offensive lineman in heavy packages. Ifedi briefly returned but then left the game for good. Afterward, Carroll called it a high-ankle sprain.
Odhiambo was the offensive lineman who stepped on quarterback Russell Wilson’s foot with the Seahawks backed up against their own end zone, leading to a safety on Seattle’s third possession.
Tight end Brandon Williams was knocked out of the game with a concussion while Luke Willson left briefly to be evaluated for one.
