The Seahawks may not be in the market for a punter after all.
Jon Ryan, who suffered a concussion in last week’s win over the Los Angeles Rams and was still going through the NFL’s concussion protocol as of Tuesday, was a limited participant Wednesday, according to Seattle’s practice report. That’s a good sign that the Seahawks won’t have to use a valuable roster spot on a second punter for Saturday’s regular season home finale against the Arizona Cardinals.
The real test, though, will be whether Ryan practices again Thursday after his limited activity.
Only two players were listed as not practicing: rookie running back C.J. Prosise, which is expected as he’s still recovering from an injury to his shoulder blade, and Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett. The Seahawks give Bennett normal days off during the season, but he suffered a neck injury in the Rams game, so his situation bears watching on Thursday. The good news with Bennett is that he participated in a walkthrough on Tuesday and held a highly entertaining press conference on Wednesday (more on that below).
The fourth and final player included on the Seahawks’ practice report was linebacker Brock Coyle, who was a full participant. He has missed the last three games with a foot injury but appears primed to return against the Cardinals.

A day after a tense exchange between Richard Sherman and 710 ESPN Seattle’s Jim Moore became the talk of the town – and even made international news – things were a lot lighter between members of the Seahawks and the local media on Thursday. “Don’t make me take y’all’s credentials today, alright?” was how quarterback Russell Wilson opened his weekly session, referencing Sherman’s threat that he would ruin Moore’s career by having his gets his media credential pulled.
The quote of the day, though, without question belonged to Bennett, who used some colorful language to explain why his three-pump celebration after a sack drew him a penalty in the Rams game.
“Two pumps get you a baby. Three pumps get you a fine.”
By the way, Bennett was also wearing a red Christmas sweater that featured a picture of him doing his usual celebration dance – an item you can buy on his website. Never a dull moment when No. 72 is around.
