RENTON – Linebacker Mike Morgan and fullback Will Tukuafu were among the six Seahawks who didn’t practice Wednesday. No surprise with Tukuafu, who’s going through the league’s concussion protocol after leaving Sunday night’s game against Carolina. That’s what led the Seahawks to sign fullback Marcel Reece, the former Husky who had spent his entire career until now with Oakland.
Morgan, though, is an addition to Seattle’s injury report. He played Sunday night for the first time in two months, which was the time he missed while on Injured Reserve following groin surgery. A hip issue kept him from practicing Wednesday and will bear watching for the remainder of the week.
Brock Coyle is returning from a foot injury that kept him out of the last two games and was listed as limited while Kevin Pierre-Louis is healthy. Both players started at strong-side linebacker while Morgan was out.
Defensive end Damontre Moore didn’t practice because of a foot injury. He missed Seattle’s game against Tampa Bay with a foot injury. Tight end Jimmy Graham and defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin didn’t practice either, but their absences were listed as not injury-related.
Coach Pete Carroll said tight end Luke Willson and wide receiver Paul Richardson are expected to be back this week after missing Sunday night’s game. Willson, who was out with a sprained knee, was listed as a full participant while Richardson was limited as he comes back from a hamstring injury.
Defensive end Michael Bennett was listed as a full participant, a good sign that he made it out of Sunday night’s game OK after playing for the first time time in six weeks following knee surgery.
Carroll on Wednesday provided a bit of clarity on the broken leg that has ended free safety Earl Thomas’ season, saying that – medically speaking – it’s nothing that should jeopardize his career. Carroll said there was no damage to Thomas’ leg beyond the fracture in his tibia.
“This is an injury that you recover from; it just takes a long time,” Carroll said. “I don’t think it’s a big question if he’ll ever make it back. He’ll be OK. We just have to take the time to do it. This is not weeks, this is months on this one, so it does take a long time. At this point, he has that time. We’ll be every optimistic about him being able to get back.”
Carroll said he was still unaware if Thomas will have surgery. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Thomas said he will not.
