The Seahawks swapped out one defensive tackle for another on Tuesday, bringing back Sealver Siliga and placing Garrison Smith on Injured Reserve. The team confirmed those moves after the agent who represents both players, David Canter, announced them on Twitter.
Smith, claimed off waivers from San Francisco before the first week of the season, appeared in three games for Seattle this season. He showed up on last week’s injury report with an oblique injury but played 19 snaps Sunday against Atlanta, getting credit for a tackle.
Siliga returns for his third stint with Seattle. The Seahawks gave him a one-year deal worth a little over $1 million last March, adding depth at defensive tackle after losing starter Brandon Mebane in free agency. But Siliga showed up to training camp with an injured calf that never healed. He was placed on IR in late August and was later released with an injury settlement, freeing him to sign with any team after a designated amount of time had passed.
Siliga, 26, was briefly with Seattle in 2013, when the Seahawks acquired him from Denver in exchange for guard John Moffit. He didn’t make the team out of training camp that year. He spent the past three seasons with New England and played in Super Bowl XLIX against the Seahawks.
