The cities of Seattle and Sacramento aren’t the only parties interested in the NBA’s decision Tuesday on the future of the Sacramento Kings. As reported by ESPN.com, 11-time NBA championship coach and Hall of Famer Phil Jackson is waiting to accept a front-office job offer from a number of NBA teams until after Tuesday’s decision.
According to ESPN.com’s Mark Stein, a source close to the situation says that Jackson will wait until the final verdict from the NBA on the Seattle group’s bid to decide where, or if, he will work next season. Stein goes on to write that the presumption in front-office circles is that if the NBA approves the sale of the Kings to a Seattle group led by investor Chris Hansen, he would name Jackson the franchise’s new president.
ESPN.come has reported that Jackson has “hit if off” with Hanson, who recently increased his bid to buy the Kings by $75 million to $625 million.
The Seattle group’s bid took a big hit two weeks ago when the NBA’s relocation committee voted unanimously to reject a Kings move.
Jackson’s other main suitors are the Toronto Raptors, who want him to become their new team president, Stein reported.
