With a touchdown and an interception among his nine passing attempts Sunday, Trevone Boykin’s NFL debut was a mixed bag.

Boykin, the Seahawks’ undrafted rookie quarterback, entered during the third quarter of Seattle’s 37-18 win over the 49ers, first for one play right after Russell Wilson injured his knee and then for good on the team’s next possession. He went 2 of 3 for 11 yards on his first full drive, which began with a short field following an interception and ended with a field goal. Boykin completed all three of his attempts for 43 yards on Seattle’s next drive, capping it with a 16-yard touchdown throw to Doug Baldwin.

His interception came on the following drive, when 49ers linebacker Nick Bellore stepped in front of a pass that Boykin delivered late. He finished 7 of 9 for 65 yards and a 94.2 passer rating.

“I thought he did fine,” coach Pete Carroll said. “It’s unfortunate that he throws a pick there, but it was great to get him out there. He was very poised. He was very calm about going out. He understood. We talked about the situation of the game and we were ahead, and all that kind of stuff.  He was very easy to communicate with, which is a really good sign. It was great that he was out there, so he can jump in whenever we need him.”

The Seahawks hope Wilson’s knee injury isn’t severe enough to require that.

Boykin was asked what he wants his teammates to know if he has to step in.

“That I’ll be prepared,” he said. “That I’ll be ready and we’re going in to win the football game.”
