Sound Stories, Episode 3: Frank MacDonald

For the third episode of Sound Stories, I decided to go in a sort of different direction from the first two.
While Dave Clark is a journalist and fan, his knowledge and experience of the Sounders is mostly limited to the MLS era. Steve Zakuani, who I talked to in Episode 2, is a legend of the Sounders, but his expertise is also limited to 2009 and after. So I brought in Frank MacDonald, who has been involved with the Sounders and soccer in Seattle in various capacities since 1974, when he first caught a glimpse of the NASL Sounders on TV. Since then, he’s done everything from work in the club’s PR department to organizing a group that collects and documents the history of soccer in Western Washington.
Frank talks about seeing Brian Schmetzer as a player, attending the very first Sounders MLS match, and more. Check out his website at frankmacdonald.net, and follow his organization, Washington State Legends of Soccer, at facebook.com/WaSoccerLegends or twitter.com/WA_Legends.
