The 16th-ranked Huskies will have a new look when they host No. 2 Oregon Saturday afternoon, debuting black helmets to match their all-black alternate jerseys.
The helmets – according to a photo on coach Steve Sarkisian’s Tumblr page – have a matte black finish and black facemasks, with the traditional purple “W” on either side and purple striping in the middle.
“Like the shiny gold helmets Washington wore each of the last two weeks, the black lids are a favorite among the players in the program,” the post reads, in part. “This special, alternate look, like the new gold helmets, is not meant to replace the traditional helmets, but it does add another variation on the Huskies’ traditional purple and gold.”
Washington has been wearing all-black alternate uniforms since 2010.
