The Mariners will turn to the King to salvage their home series against the wild card-leading Blue Jays and keep the team’s dwindling playoff hopes alive.
After the 10-2 loss Tuesday, Felix Hernandez will take the mound for Seattle, which sits four games behind the Blue Jays and three games below the Orioles for the second spot, with 11 games to play. The Mariners would need to leapfrog two other teams (Houston and Detroit) to the postseason, and the team’s playoff odds have dipped to 8.3 percent, according to FanGraphs.
Jesus Sucre will be behind the plate for the Mariners, batting in front of shortstop Ketel Marte, who was out of the lineup Tuesday.
The Blue Jays will counter with Aaron Sanchez, who is 13-2 and has posted a 3.17 ERA this season. First pitch is scheduled for 12:40 a.m. and will be live on 710 ESPN Seattle. The pregame show begins at 11:30.
