Cyler Miles suspended for Huskies’ season opener

Quarterback Cyler Miles has been suspended for Washington’s season opener against Hawaii.

Coach Chris Petersen announced the decision at the Pac-12 media day Thursday, confirming a report from Adam Jude of The Seattle Times.

Miles, a redshirt sophomore, had been reinstated to the program by coach Chris Petersen in May following an indefinite suspension that coincided with an investigation into his alleged involvement in an assault that took place in February. Miles was not charged.

Teammate Demore’ea Stringfellow, a wide receiver who was also involved in the incident, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault and one count of malicious mischief. He has since transferred.

Miles has been the favorite to replace Keith Price as Washington’s starter. His suspension means that either Jeff Lindquist or Troy Williams will start in the Huskies’ Aug. 30 opener at Hawaii. Those two split reps during spring practice in Miles’ absence.
