Pete Carroll says Russell Wilson won’t be limited vs Rams; C.J. Prosise questionable

RENTON – As it became increasingly apparent this week that quarterback Russell Wilson will play Sunday against the Rams despite a sprained right ankle, the question shifted to how much the injury may affect him. If there’s any thought that Wilson may be limited on game day, no one on the Seahawks is conceding it. Not offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who said the team expects Wilson to be a “full go.” Not Wilson himself and not coach Pete Carroll.

“He made it through everything we asked him to do and he did fine,” Carroll said Friday. “He’s going to play and we expect him to play well.”

Will Wilson be at all limited?

“Nope,” Carroll said.

Whether or not that’s a realistic expectation, a fully mobile Wilson certainly would be awfully useful against a Rams defense that has had its way with Seattle up front in recent seasons. Wilson was listed as a full participant in practice all three days this week, which means he was able to take 100 percent of his normal reps.

“Yeah, I think it’s a surprise that he was able to practice on Wednesday and all that, but I think it showed that the severity of it was such that he could really manage it and handle it well,” Carroll said. “So we’re very fortunate.”

The Seahawks may not be as fortunate with running back C.J. Prosise, who is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game after cracking a bone in his right wrist in Seattle’s opener. Prosise was a full participant in practice this week, but Carroll has said that he’s had to wear a cast to protect his injury. That would presumably make it difficult to catch passes and carry the ball, which are part of his job as Seattle’s third-down back.

“We’ll wait and see,” Carroll said of Prosise. “He’s got something he’s wearing on his wrist that we have to take into account. We’ll let you know on game day.”

Right guard J’Marcus Webb is also listed as questionable after sitting out due to a sore ankle, but Carroll said he’s expected to play. Webb has been filling in for Germain Ifedi, who has been sidelined since sustaining a high-ankle sprain last week. Carroll said Ifedi is making good progress from the injury, which he’s dealt with before, and pointed to the work he’ll do next week as being a gauge of where he’s at in his recovery.

As for Webb, who struggled last week against Miami’s Ndamukong Suh and has another tough matchup against the Rams’ Aaron Donald, Carroll said he expects improvement.

“He had a good couple days,” Carroll said. “We rested him today. His ankle’s a little bit sore, but he looks like he’s already started to come around a little bit to feeling more comfortable and all of that. It’s been a while since he was featured at guard, but he looked much more comfortable and so hopefully we’ll make some progress there.”

Tight end Jimmy Graham was on the field for only 17 snaps last week and got one ball thrown his way – which he caught for an 11-yard gain on Seattle’s game-winning touchdown drive – but Carroll indicated that his workload should increase this week. It will be only his second game of any kind since surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon as Graham didn’t play at all in the preseason.

“He’s ready to go,” Carroll said. “He had his best week and he’s ready to just play in all situations now.”
