Washington State coach Mike Leach says former Cougars wide receiver Marquess Wilson has “basically recanted everything he said” about payers being subject to abuse.
Wilson, the school’s all-time leading receiver, quit the program earlier this month and released a statement alleging “physical, emotional and verbal abuse” by the coaching staff. Leach then denied those claims, which Washington State president Elson Floyd asked the athletic department and the Pac-12 conference to investigate.
Leach, speaking with reporters Wednesday during his end-of-the-season press conference, said the ordeal has been “a total waste of time other than for some of the media that’s over-embraced it because they’d rather cover that than actual football.”
Leach clarified that he has not spoken with Wilson personally since he left the team.
“Just wait and you’ll read the review. Stay tuned,” Leach said. “And then when you all get bored talking about football you can talk about that again.”
