Former Cougars OLB Travis Long signs with Eagles

Former Washington State outside linebacker Travis Long signed a rookie free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday afternoon.

As a four-time all-conference selection, Long etched his name in the Cougars’ record book with 20.5 sacks and 42 tackles for loss. Those numbers were the sixth-most and fourth-most in school history, respectively.

Long started all 47 games he played in for Washington State, but missed what would have been his collegiate finale — last year’s Apple Cup — after tearing his ACL Nov. 17 at Arizona State. The injury kept Long from participating in the Cougars’ pro day this past spring and was likely a major reason why he wasn’t selected in April’s NFL draft, but earlier this month he was cleared to resume football activities.

Long’s signing came after Eagles linebacker Jason Phillips suffered a season-ending ACL tear Monday during training camp.
