After getting the afternoon off during Sunday’s dramatic loss to the Brewers, catcher Mike Zunino returns to the Mariners’ lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Yankees.

Zunino slugged a home run and had three RBIs on Saturday. He’s been one of the hottest-hitting catchers since being recalled July 20, posting a .281/.405/.641 slash-line in 23 games entering Monday.

Seattle recalled Guillermo Heredia from Triple-A Monday afternoon and placed reliever Drew Storen on the 15-day disabled list, but the Mariners are sticking with the same starting outfield they had against Milwaukee on Sunday. Heredia will be in uniform for the game.

The Mariners haven’t lost back-to-back games at home over their last 28 games at Safeco Field, going 20-8 over that stretch. Seattle entered Monday one game behind the Orioles for the second wild-card spot and is 17-9 against American League East teams this season, including 9-2 at home.

Cody Martin will take the mound for his second start of the season for Seattle at 7:10 p.m. He’ll be opposed by former Mariners right-hander Michael Pineda.

The game will be live on 710 ESPN Seattle, with pregame coverage beginning at 6.
