Reliever Steve Cishek and utility man Stefen Romero are back with the Mariners while struggling slugger Dae-Ho Lee and right-hander Joe Wieland are on their way to Tacoma.
The Mariners announced those roster moves before Friday’s series opener with Milwaukee at Safeco Field. Romero is hitting sixth and playing first base.
Cishek became eligible Friday to come off the 15-day disabled list, where the Mariners placed him earlier this month due to what the team called a left hip labrum tear. He was activated after a two-game rehab assignment with Short-A Everett.
Romero is back with the Mariners for the second time this season after hitting .314 with 19 home runs and a .922 OPS in 96 games with Tacoma, where he’s played first base and both corner outfield spots.
The Mariners are sending Lee to Tacoma in the hopes he can regain his form from before the All-Star Break, when he hit .288 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs in 64 games as the right-handed platoon option at first base. He’s gone 6 for his last 55 (.109) with a home run and four RBIs in 20 games since the break.
Wieland heads back to Tacoma after allowing six runs in five innings in his Mariners debut last week.
