The Mariners have recalled outfielder Guillermo Heredia from Triple-A Tacoma and optioned reliever David Rollins, making those moves Friday’s game against the Cubs in Chicago.
Heredia gives the Mariners an extra position player, which they could use with three games in a National League Park. He’s available but not in the starting lineup for Friday’s opener, which begins at 11:20 on 710 ESPN Seattle with pregame coverage beginning at 10.
Heredia, 25, defected from Cuba in 2015 and signed with the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in March. He hit .293 with a .405 on-base percentage and a .376 slugging percentage in 58 games with Double-A Jackson before his promotion in June to Tacoma, where he hit .340/.385/.472 in 26 games. The video above shows Heredia hitting a walk–0ff home run last week for Tacoma.
Rollins, 26, has a 1-0 record and a 7.04 ERA in nine relief appearances over four stints with Seattle this season.
