Seahawks rookie quarterback Trevone Boykin, who was originally charged with assault of a police officer from an incident in San Antonio on Dec. 31, pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of resisting arrest on Thursday.
With the plea deal, the 22-year-old received one year deferred adjudication probation, the majority of which he will be allowed to serve in Seattle. The probation includes 80 hours of community service and an anger management course. He was also fined $1,500 plus $237 in court costs.
The conviction won’t appear on Boykin’s permanent record if he completes the requirements.
The incident occurred at a bar prior to Boykin’s Texas Christian University football team playing in the Alamo Bowl. He was initially arrested for assaulting a public servant, public intoxication and resisting arrest.
Knowledge of the arrest was a factor in Boykin going undrafted in April. He was signed shortly after the draft by the Seahawks, and has been the leading in-house candidate this offseason to serve as Seattle’s backup quarterback behind Russell Wilson in 2016.
