Seahawks quarterback Trevon Boykin has been charged with assault in San Antonio for allegedly striking a police officer after being thrown out of a bar on Dec. 31 prior to his TCU Horned Frogs playing in the Alamo Bowl, according to TMZ.
At the time of the incident, Boykin was arrested for assaulting a public servant (a third degree felony), public intoxication and resisting arrest. He has been officially charged with just one count of misdemeanor assault with bodily injury, per the report. Boykin is due to be arrainged in August and he faces up to one year in jail if convicted.
The incident factored into Boykin, 22, going undrafted in April. The Seahawks signed Boykin immediately after the draft, and he has been the leading in-house candidate to be Seattle’s backup QB since. Former Seahawks backup Tarvaris Jackson, currently a free agent, was thought to be in the mix for the spot until he was arrested last Friday.
Boykin’s agent, Drew Pittman, released a statement on the charge, refuting portions of the TMZ report, according to The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta. “Some of the facts of today’s TMZ report are incorrect,” Pittman wrote. “Trevone has already agreed to terms with the authorities on a lesser charge. He has been accountable and remorseful from the beginning. Trevone is looking forward to training camp starting July 30th and to competing for a roster spot.”
