Dominique Byrd hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2007, but a strong start to the preseason has increased his chances of cracking the Seahawks’ roster as a backup in a crowded group of tight ends.
Byrd, the team leader in receiving yards in each of the first two preseason games, joined Bob Stelton, Dave Grosby and Dave Wyman during “The Huddle” on Thursday and discussed his maturation after his hiatus from football, his appreciation for the chance given to him by his college coach Pete Carroll, and how the team’s emphasis on its running game impacts the tight ends.
He also discussed the competition among the tight ends, a group that includes free-agent acquisition Zach Miller, incumbent starter John Carlson and recent draft picks Cameron Morrah and Anthony McCoy.
