Down to their final out on Tuesday night, the Mariners gave their hottest hitter a chance to win the game. Leonys Martin didn’t miss it.
After Norichika Aoki’s two-out double, Martin sent the fourth straight changeup he saw from Oakland closer Ryan Madsen into the right-center field seats for a walkoff homer in Seattle’s 6-5 win.

It was just the latest highlight in a week full of them for the Mariners center fielder. The homer kept his current hitting streak alive, pushing it to eight games. During that stretch, he’s hitting .500 with four homers and six RBIs, and he’s established himself for the foreseeable future in Seattle’s leadoff spot, as well.
Martin and the Mariners finish up their series against the A’s with the rubber game at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday on 710 ESPN Seattle.
