University of Washington names Jennifer Cohen new athletic director

May 24, 2016, 2:26 PM

Jennifer Cohen will be the University of Washington’s new athletic director.

After a fourth-month search, UW President Ana Mari Cauce made the announcement on Tuesday. Cohen has been serving as the interim athletic director since January.  She starts her new position effective June 1.

“I am humbled, honored, and extremely thankful for this opportunity,” Cohen said in a news release. “The University of Washington has been part of my life for nearly two decades, and I believe our department is poised to accomplish great things. Together, we will work to positively impact our student-athletes, inspire a championship culture, and build and unite our community. I believe there is no better place to achieve these things than at Washington, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Cohen, a native of Tacoma, has been with the university for 18 years, most recently overseeing the football and baseball programs. She has spent many of her years focused on fundraising for the athletic department.
