With just two days left until the Seahawks’ final preseason game, you can feel an extra sense of urgency for the 75 players currently on the roster.

I spoke with free-agent rookie defensive back DeShawn Shead after practice about what this week is like. He said the business part of the NFL finally kicked in when some of his friends and teammates were no longer part of the team.

The Portland State University alum hopes his versatility in the secondary and his special teams ability play can elevate his stock when it comes to the final cut later this week.

Backup quarterback Matt Flynn did more passing Tuesday than he did Monday. His elbow inflammation appears to be improving. Flynn lobbed a 40-yard pass and actually overthrew speedy receiver Ricardo Lockette.

Starter Russell Wilson showed off his athletic ability when he rolled left and threw back across his body about 25 yards to complete a pass to Sidney Rice on the sideline. Wilson will be seeing linebacker Leroy Hill in his nightmares. Hill twice broke up short passes intended for the tight ends.

Running back Marshawn Lynch watched practice wearing sweats. He has been receiving treatment for a sore, tight back. According to coach Pete Carroll, Lynch will not play in Thursday night’s preseason finale against Oakland.

It’s doubtful receiver Doug Baldwin will play against the Raiders, either. He is still recovering from a hamstring problem. Doctors had to drain some fluid last week.

Other players not participating in Tuesday’s workout at team headquarters in Renton included defensive linemen Greg Scruggs and Jason Jones, linebacker Matt McCoy and safety Chris Maragos.

Right guard John Moffitt got in quite a bit of work. The big man said his left elbow is feeling much better after doctors removed loosed bone chips which had been touching his nerves. Moffitt would like to play some Thursday, but will follow trainers’ and coaches’ wishes.

There were a few notable observers at the session. Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey was in town to visit with some old friends. Casey was a popular assistant coach with the Seattle Supersonics.

Seattle Sounders owner/general manager Adrian Hanauer and former Sounders goalie Kasey Keller were also on hand. They were being interviewed by ESPN columnist Rick Reilly.
