Seahawks notes: Rice, Okung don’t practice

It was a feisty group of Seahawks hitting the practice field under sunny skies with 72 degrees in Renton. The team no doubt is still smarting about the loss at Arizona.

A couple surprises on the official practice report: receiver Sidney Rice did not participate due to a sore knee. Coach Pete Carroll did not mention Rice during his Monday or Wednesday press conferences. Carroll told us earlier in the week that running back Marshawn Lynch came out of the Arizona game fairly healthy. Lynch was limited in the Wednesday session due to his persistent back issues.

Tight end Zach Miller was limited in practice with a foot problem, and left tackle Russell Okung did not practice due to a bruised knee bone. Okung is expected to be ready for Sunday’s game. Frank Omiyale will play if Okung can’t. John Moffitt returned to starting right guard as Carroll told us in the media session.

Receiver Golden Tate was a full participant at practice. He missed the season opener with a sprained knee. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said after practice that Tate gives rookie Russell Wilson another proven receiver who can get deep and catch the football.

Bevell said he expects the Cowboys to blitz from their 3-4 formation because the Seahawks didn’t prove they could stop it against Arizona’s pressure. He also believes Wilson will play better with the more familiar home stadium this weekend.

Receiver Charly Martin has finally returned from Arizona. He remained there for two days because of his bruised lung. The Walla Walla native is expected to be out of action a couple weeks.

There were more changes on Seattle’s practice squad. Lakewood native and former Huskies receiver Jermaine Kearse is back. The Hawks also signed 323-pound defensive tackle Hebron Fangupo. He’s a 27-year-old rookie from Brigham Young University.
