The Seahawks have waived backup wide receiver Charly Martin.

The move, first reported by Brian McIntyre of Yahoo! Sports, has been confirmed with the team by 710 ESPN Seattle’s Liz Mathews. The Seahawks also released receiver Lavasier Tuinei from the practice squad.

Martin’s release could be to clear a roster spot for cornerback Walter Thurmond, who has not yet been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Thurmond has been practicing with the team, attempting to come back from a broken leg he sustained last season.

Martin, a native of Walla Walla, Wash., appeared in four games for the Seahawks this season, making four catches for 42 yards. His lone start came on Sunday against the Vikings as the Seahawks opened the game with a five-wide receiver set.

The decision to release Martin could also be a sign that fellow receiver Braylon Edwards is recovering well from the knee injury that has kept him out of the last two games.
