Chalk Talk: Another breakdown in Seahawks’ run D

By Brady Henderson

NFL coaches weigh the benefits of rest and the potential for rust when deciding whether to keep players around or give them time off during a bye week.

Pete Carroll chose the latter, and he regretted it after watching his Seahawks commit 10 penalties and make other costly mistakes during their 24-21 loss to the Dolphins.

Carroll described the Seahawks’ play on Sunday as “sloppy” when he joined “Brock and Salk” on Monday.

“I felt like we were physically fit. Guys felt great because they had the week off and we had a very spirited week of work,” he said. “But it wasn’t sharp enough and the sharpness wasn’t there and the attention to the details that were necessary to stop them and those runs and all wasn’t where it needed to be.”

One of those runs Carroll might have been referring to was the touchdown Seattle allowed to Miami’s backup running back, Daniel Thomas, one play after a roughing-the-passer penalty on Earl Thomas negated an interception and gave Miami a first down at the 3-yard line.

Brock Huard breaks down that touchdown run in the latest “Chalk Talk” video. The Dolphins’ website has the replay.
