Seahawks defensive tackle Alan Branch did not practice Wednesday after tweaking his ankle during Sunday’s win over the Bills.
“We are going to sit him today and probably tomorrow and try to get him out there on Friday to get him going,” coach Pete Carroll said. “This is not as bad an ankle [injury] as he’s had. He’s had a history of ankle injuries and he knows it well. We’re encouraged that he’s got a chance to make it back.”
Both defensive end Greg Sruggs and defensive tackle Clinton McDonald will split time on Sunday against San Francisco if Branch is inactive.
Defensive tackle Jason Jones, who has battled knee injuries this season, also missed practice Wednesday.
Cornerbacks Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond, both sidelined with hamstring issues, have yet to return to practice. Carroll has not ruled out either player.
“We’ll find out as the week goes on — both those guys,” Carroll said when asked if either would be available Sunday. “We don’t know that yet. We’re working to get them back on the practice field, then we’ll know.”
Wide receiver Sidney Rice, listed last week on the practice report with a bruised foot, sat out Wednesday with a knee injury. Running back Leon Washington was excused early due to an undisclosed illness.
Running back Marshawn Lynch (back) was listed on the practice report as a limited participant, as usual.
