Before the Seahawks’ Week 16 win over the Los Angeles Rams, which won Seattle the NFC West for the first time since 2016, news came out that former All-Pro defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison was requesting his release from the team due to being told he would be inactive for Sunday’s game.

Harrison confirmed the reports on his Twitter page, but it was expected that the Seahawks would attempt to convince Harrison to stick around.

During his Monday morning radio show, head coach Pete Carroll told 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny and Gallant that he talked to Harrison on Monday and that the two sides were parting ways.

“Snacks, he’s decided to stop playing. He’s done playing,” Carroll said. “I talked to him this morning, he’s in good spirits and all of that, he’s really grateful for the opportunity playing here and he did really well by us, but he’s just done.”

The Seahawks made it official Monday afternoon, announcing Harrison had been waived.

Harrison, 32, signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad early in the season, and it took a month before he was activated for any games. Overall, Harrison played in six games for the Seahawks this year, playing between 18 to 30 snaps per contest, and made nine tackles and forced a fumble.

While Harrison showed he can still contribute to a team, Carroll said he’s not sure if Harrison will attempt to play for another franchise going forward.

“I don’t know what will happen with any other club, but I know he’s got a big family, he’s got a bunch of kids – he’s got seven kids – to corral and take care of and it’s a very trying time and challenging, so he’s just trying to get them back home and safe,” Carroll said.

Though the end of their brief relationship isn’t ideal for either side, Carroll made it clear there is no animosity from his perspective.

“He was awesome to have around,” he said. “We loved him and I’m sorry to see him go, but we’re going to keep going.”

Harrison sent a message out on his Twitter shortly after Carroll’s comments on 710 ESPN Seattle.

With Harrison set to be released, the Seahawks will have three defensive tackles on the active roster in Jarran Reed, Poona Ford and Bryan Mone. Defensive ends L.J. Collier and Rasheem Green have also lined up on the interior of the defensive line as well this season.
