The Seahawks entered the draft last week with no quarterbacks other than starter Russell Wilson on their roster. They now have two of them after signing undrafted free agent Trevone Boykin from TCU and then Jake Heaps, a product of Skyline High School in Sammamish.

Heaps, 24, announced the signing Monday. It was later listed on the NFL’s transaction report.

Once the No. 1-ranked quarterback recruit in the nation, he began what would be a transient college career at BYU then transferred twice, first to Kansas and then to Miami. He spent time with the Jets last offseason as an undrafted rookie but was waived during the preseason.

Heaps (6-1, 208) threw last month at the University of Washington’s pro day, where the Seahawks were well-represented as usual.

He’s eligible to participate in the Seahawks’ rookie minicamp next weekend even though this will be his second year out of college. Former Eastern Washington and Oregon quarterback Vernon Adams will reportedly be there as well but on a tryout basis.

The Seahawks signed Phillip Sims to a futures deal in January but released him last week, leaving Wilson as the only quarterback on their roster heading into the draft. Tarvaris Jackson, Wilson’s backup the last three years, remains unsigned. General manager John Schneider answered in the affirmative when asked after the draft if the Seahawks have been in contact with Jackson. He didn’t specify when or at what length the two sides have spoken, but it seems as though Jackson is still an option.
