The Seahawks are close to reaching a deal with Antoine Winfield that will bring the free-agent cornerback to Seattle, according to ESPN’s Ed Werder.
Winfield visited with the team on Tuesday. He reportedly has had interest elsewhere from the Redskins and Vikings, who released him last month.
Winfield will be 36 next season but has remained productive despite his advancing age, recording 101 tackles, three interceptions and 12 passes defensed in 16 games last season. Winfield has made the Pro Bowl three times during his 14-year career, mostly recently following the 2010 season.
ESPN’s John Clayton believes that whatever offer the Seahawks have made to Winfield is close to the veteran’s minimum and for one year. Winfield was scheduled to make $7.25 million in the final season of his deal with the Vikings.
