RENTON – With a trio of picks clustered at the end of the third round, the Seahawks addressed some remaining needs by drafting running back C.J. Prosise from Notre Dame, tight end Nick Vannett from Ohio State and then offensive lineman Rees Odhiambo from Boise State.
Prosise (6-1, 220) has only played one season at running back, having moved there from wide receiver. He rushed for 1,032 yards and 11 touchdowns last season and entered the draft with a year of eligibility remaining. He provides depth at running back, a position Seattle was expected to add to in light of Marshawn Lynch’s retirement, Thomas Rawls’ injury and Christine Michael’s past inconsistencies. And he gives Seattle a pass-catching threat from the backfield, something that Michael does not provide much of.
Vannett (6-6, 260) caught only 55 passes over his four seasons at Ohio State, but he’s considered a strong blocker. Tight end was a predictable target for Seattle in the draft with Jimmy Graham coming off a serious injury and backup Luke Willson entering the final year of his contract.
Odhiambo (6-4, 309) is the second offensive lineman Seattle has taken following the first-round selection of Germain Ifedi. He was a three-year starter at Boise State, and while he played mostly tackle there, this scouting report notes that he may be a better fit at guard in the NFL. That’s what the Seahawks are listing him as. Odhiambo was born in Kenya and moved to Texas as a child.
