The Mariners have hired Aaron Goldsmith to team with lead radio announcer Rick Rizzs, the club announced Thursday.

Those two will form the primary radio broadcast team, signaling an end to the rotating group of broadcasters the team has used since Dave Niehaus passed away in 2010. Dave Sims and Mike Blowers will remain on the television broadcast.

Goldsmith, 29, joins the Mariners after spending last season as the lead announcer for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox. Prior to that, he called games for the Double-A affiliates of the Red Sox (2009) and the Rangers (2010-’11).

“Aaron has a bright future as a broadcaster, and we believe Mariners fans in the Northwest will enjoy listening to him with Rick Rizzs on 710 ESPN and the Mariners Radio Network,” Randy Adamack, the Mariners’ senior vice president of communications, said in the club’s press release. “He will be a great fit here for many years to come.”

Along with calling spring training and regular-season games on 710 ESPN Seattle, Goldsmith will be involved in the “Hot Stove League Show”, “The Cactus League Report” and “Mariners Magazine”.

Goldsmith, a native of St. Louis, Mo., has a history degree from Principia College in Elsah, Ill. as well as a certificate in radio broadcasting and production from the Broadcast Center in St. Louis.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Seattle Mariners broadcast team,” Goldsmith said in the press release. “The idea of contributing to an organization with such a rich tradition on the radio is a tremendous honor and a standard I look forward to upholding. I’m eager to start working alongside Rick Rizzs and contributing to the Mariners both on and off the air.”
