RENTON – Walter Thurmond was a promising cornerback and briefly a starter for the Seahawks before a string on injuries and Richard Sherman’s emergence made him an afterthought in Seattle’s secondary.

Thurmond, a fourth-round pick out of Oregon in 2010, was elevated to the starting lineup in 2011 when Marcus Trufant was lost for the year. But a broken leg in Week 7 ended Thurmond’s season as well, and he’s only played in two games since then while ending the last two seasons on injured reserve.

Which brings us to Monday’s organized team activity. Antoine Winfield, the Seahawks’ presumed starting nickel cornerback, wasn’t in attendance. Thurmond ran with the Seahawks’ first-team defense in his absence, and according to Brock Huard and Danny O’Neil, looked like a starting-caliber cornerback.

In the video below, Huard and O’Neil share their observations of Thurmond and others from Monday’s OTA.
