The September issue of GQ is using a thinly veiled photo spread about the comeback of the Ernest Hemingway-esque fisherman-style sweaters to talk about Seattle Seahawk Russell Wilson.
The issue features a four-page spread of Wilson taking in the sights of Seattle while looking dapper.
The text of the article touts “he’s kind of a big deal.” It covers everything from the fourth quarter of that fateful game against the Falcons during last year’s playoffs to Wilson’s years as school yard terror.
While he’s wearing pricey duds for the spread (including a $1,750 cardigan), Wilson admitted to GQ that in real life, he keeps it simple, even though his teammates have made fun of his suits.
“When you’re a rookie and you’re a third-round pick, you have to be smart with your money,” he told the magazine. “I’d rather wear a hundred-dollar suit than go bankrupt.”
The September issue of GQ is on newsstands Tuesday.
What his GQ spread didn’t get him was cover-boy status – but you can find that on the current issue of ESPN magazine.
