Giacomini’s return date still a question for Seahawks

RENTON – Breno Giacomini did not practice with the Seahawks on Tuesday, which was not a surprise.

Coach Pete Carroll already said Giacomini was not a consideration to play in this shortened week as the Seahawks play at Arizona Thursday.

The question of when Seattle’s right tackle might return, however, remains unclear three weeks after he underwent surgery to remove loose particles from his knee. Giacomini had the knee drained last weekend, according to Carroll, in the hopes that will help him return.

“He had some fluid removed off his knee that really helped him,” Carroll said. “We’re hoping that in the next couple of weeks that he’ll be able to jump back. But we can’t tell yet until he really responds to what just happened over the weekend.”

The fact that Giacomini is not practicing yet and Carroll doesn’t have a timeline for when he might begin practicing shows some uncertainty. Giacomini’s knee was a concern as early as this offseason when he was evaluated in New York. The injury worsened in the Week 3 victory over Jacksonville.

Rookie Michael Bowie has started the past three games and has improved over that time.

In other injury news, defensive end Chris Clemons did not practice Tuesday, and his availability is in doubt after suffering a hyperextended elbow in a pile during the second half of last week’s game.

Running back Marshawn Lynch did not practice Tuesday, his absence attributed to an hip injury. Lynch was questionable entering last week’s game because of a hip injury, but the Seahawks never indicated there was much question about whether Lynch would play.

Other Seahawks who sat out practice Tuesday: running back Spencer Ware (ankle) and linebacker Bobby Wagner (ankle).

Tight end Zach Miller practiced without limitation and is expected to play after missing the past two games with a sore hamstring.

Editor’s note: Lynch missed Tuesday’s practice because of a hip injury as opposed to an ankle injury, which the Seahawks initially reported.
