Pete Carroll on Sirius XM: Harvin won’t play this week

RENTON – Wide receiver Percy Harvin won’t be making his Seahawks debut this week, according to coach Pete Carroll.

Carroll said in an interview with Sirius XM Radio that while Harvin is progressing in his recovery from hip surgery, he won’t be ready to play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“He’s getting close,” Carroll said, “but not close enough.”

Harvin was acquired from Minnesota in the offseason, but has been on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list since training camp began because of hip surgery. He underwent surgery to repair a damaged labrum on Aug. 1, and began practicing last Monday. The team must add him to the active roster before Nov. 11 if they are going to have him available this year.

With Harvin out and Sidney Rice on injured reserve, the Seahawks’ starting lineup will be in flux. Golden Tate figures to start with Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse the candidates to replace Rice.

In other Seahawks injury news, running back Marshawn Lynch sat out practice the second consecutive day because of what was described as a knee injury. He is not expected to miss Sunday’s game, however.

Offensive lineman J.R. Sweezy (elbow) and defensive lineman Michael Bennett (illness) returned to practice after sitting out on Wednesday.

Defensive tackle Brandon Mebane missed Thursday’s practice, but it was not injury related.

Right tackle Breno Giacomini (knee), fullback Derrick Coleman (hamstring) and safety Jeron Johnson (hamstring) have not practiced this week.
