Think your Christmas shopping list was long?

So was Russell Wilson’s.

The Seahawks quarterback bought gifts for his offensive teammates and Seattle’s coaching staff, and there was an electronic theme with both. He told “Mike and Mike” on 710 ESPN Seattle on Thursday that the players each received Xbox One video-game consoles, while the coaches got Microsoft’s latest tablet computer, the Surface Pro 2.

“Everybody’s fired up,” Wilson said.

Well, almost everybody.

“The defense, Richard Sherman and Earl [Thomas], they’re mad at me,” he said jokingly.

Here are a few more highlights from Wilson’s conversation with “Mike and Mike”:

Upside in loss to Cards. The Seahawks are entering the playoffs with a 2-2 record over their final four regular-season games, which included a Week-16 defeat to Arizona. That marked Wilson’s first career loss at CenturyLink Field and the first time Seattle lost at home in two years.

It also forced the Seahawks to beat St. Louis in Week 17 in order to win the division and secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Wilson, like coach Pete Carroll, sees that as beneficial in a way.

“I think it was a good thing, to be honest with you,” he said. “We’re still a young football team, and to potentially have two weeks off if we had won that game, it keeps everybody’s mind focused [that they didn’t].”

Where Wilson improved most. Wilson cited his understanding of situations as the area in which he’s refined his game the most from his rookie season to his second.

“I think to be a great quarterback, you’ve got to be a great situational quarterback, you’ve got to really understand the situations,” he said. “I’m still learning a lot and still trying to figure out as much as I can. I think that’s the thing, though, that I realized the most.”

MVP discussion. Wilson was briefly in the MVP discussion, and he’d likely have a decent shot at winning the award had it not been for Peyton Manning’s record-breaking season. When asked about it, Wilson responded in the way you’d expect him to.

“I’m not worried about that at all,” he said. “Peyton Manning’s done a tremendous job. He deserves to win it. He’s been exceptional.”
