Report: Marshawn Lynch to resolve DUI case

Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is reportedly entering a guilty plea Friday in Oakland to a reckless driving charge, which will end his nearly two-year-old DUI case.

ESPN.com reports Ivan Golde, Lynch’s attorney, explained they have enough evidence to win the case, but they’re trying to avoid going to public trial.

“He’s a Super Bowl champion, and he has endorsements pending. For a guy in his position, it just doesn’t make any sense to go through a public trial. He has a lot at stake here,” Golde told ESPN.com’s Terry Blount.

Lynch will receive two years probation and pay a $1,080 fine as part of the plea bargain. Lynch will also have to attend six classes on driving safety and alcohol consumption.

It’s unclear if the NFL will issue more penalties, but Golde said he believes the lesser charge will mean Lynch avoids a suspension.

Lynch, 27, was arrested on July 14, 2012 when California Highway Patrol troopers said they spotted his vehicle weaving in out and out of traffic. Lynch’s blood-alcohol level was recorded at .08. He was taken to the Santa Rita Jail, where he was cited and later released.
