RENTON – There were no surprises as the Seahawks began training camp on Friday.

That’s not good news, though. At least not as it relates to Marshawn Lynch, who is not present for the first of the team’s practices.

“He’s made a decision not to be here,” said general manager John Schneider when he joined 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Brock and Salk” Friday morning. “We’re really excited about the guys that are here.”

Lynch is subject to $30,000 in fines for every day he misses. He is midway through a four-year contract that is scheduled to pay him $13 million in 2014 and 2015. Of course, his $5.5 million salary next year is not guaranteed and if he were to be cut before the season begins, he would not receive a penny.

Schneider spoke only in general terms about the team’s position on 710 ESPN Seattle.

“We’ve had a plan in place for several years,” Schneider said. “It’s our responsibility to keep our plan in place and move forward.”

The Seahawks are not expected to add money to Lynch’s contract, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for compromise on the amounts Lynch is guaranteed to earn.

Coach Pete Carroll likely won’t address reporters until after the Seahawks conclude their practice Friday. It is the first of 12 training-camp practices that are open to the public.
